What is maker education?

+

Maker education or project-based learning, draws on the idea that students learn from doing; building knowledge and skills by using hands-on activities to solve complex problems.

Example:

Design-based learning is one example of project-based learning. Students learn concepts in real-time while designing something they can be proud of.

With this form of learning, you'll support your students on their maker journey, as they're transformed into active creators and innovators.

Benefits of project based learning

+

Project-based learning is a powerful approach to teaching both STEAM and core subjects. You'll give your students the skills they need to generate ideas, set goals and recognize constraints – it's hands-on problem solving at its best.

With 3D modeling, for example, students can take an idea from concept to prototype quickly, so they have the chance to spot errors, re-evaluate and make changes. They must understand the problem and apply their knowledge to solve it, encouraging deeper learning.

PBL encourages students to develop 21st century skills and the ability to innovate, which can help prepare them for the complexities of the modern workplace.
